About Us

Bringing Pets & People Together

Day Before the Rainbow is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing animals from high-kill shelters, from owners who can no longer care for them and those found as strays.

By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and trainers, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. DBTR also partners with no kill rescues in the northeast by transporting shelter animals from South Carolina to safety at those rescues, so that the pets can more quickly find forever homes.

We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition. We also provide free spay/neuter and other assistance to local families who may be temporarily unable to care for their pets. We are a strictly foster based rescue and all animals are kept in private foster homes until adopted.

Our Adoption Process

We require an application to be filled out. After the application is submitted, we will review it and check references. After the application is approved, we will email you back and set up a time for you to meet your new family member. It may take several days for us to check your application. Please be patient with us, as we are all very busy volunteers. We will notify you as soon as possible about the status of your application. Fees vary depending on the animal--adoption fees are listed in the description of each animal. An adoption contract must be signed at time of adoption. You will receive the pet's records and microchip registration at the time of the adoption as well.
